different diets during confinement

for every preggy mommies, confinement is the period that they are looking forward. there are always questions like

how can i handle it?
how to take care of lil baby + breastfeeding?
who can help to cook & clean up house?
what are the diet?
whats the dos and donts?

the list or question well i guess.. never end especially for first time mommies! we always get use to our mom-to-mom heritage of dos and donts especially when it comes to food. i find this article is very very interesting as it tell us

malay, chinese & indian
special diets during confinement
the gist

Malay
encouraged to eat fresh fish e.g. ikan haruan that promote healing internally.
Certain fishes and other seafood must be avoided = allergies.
"Cooling" foods e.g. cucumber and kangkung should be avoided = rheumatism, arthritis and weak joints

Chinese
"Warm" food e.g. ginger & tonic with herbs = promote better blood circulation and strengthen the joints
fish soups help boost low milk supply
"Windy foods e.g. onions & jackfruit must be avoided = can cause colic to baby
"Cooling" foods = refer Malay above

indian
gourd vege e.g. lauki and tori is good = increase milk supply
Betel leaves = help with lactation as well

thats all~~ its a simple gist of idea

toddler porridge v2

owh tooooddleee~~~~ back into the kitchen u ols! this week ive prepared fish porridge for qist. its my normal routine to rotate between chicken and fish. qist seems not highly interested in normal rice. she do eat but very minimal. remember the chicken porridge?  here comes my next version. but this time, i use brown rice~~~~

toddler porridge v2

ingredient

3 big slices tenggiri fish
3 small cups brown rice
1 carrot
1 handful cabbage
1/2 knorr ikan bilis aka anchovy paste (no added msg)

method
boil water with brown rice and fish. let the fish cook then take out
let your rice cook until became porridge
*for me, not too mash. just right when the rice started to become soft and slight lembik*
mash fishes using fork. put in
put in anchovy paste and stir well
grate carrot and cabbage separately
divide the porridge into 2 separate pots

put in carrot and cabbage respectively
let it cook for about 5 min only
ready to freeze!

total duration is only 1 hour. owh yes its faster than chicken porridge. why??
- dont have to wait to make stock
- dont have to blend fish like chicken

happy trying mommies!!

tips to tackle toddler's high fever

as a mom, everyone wanted the best for their kiddos. when things goes wrong, we tend to get panic attacked and dont know what to do. based on my sister's experience, i learnt a lot on ways to tackle high fever. for me, my definition of high fever is when your child's body temp is around/exceed 38.7degC (101.6degF)

1. sponging - use small towel or sponge. start from bottom-up i.e. feet to head. this is to ensure the body does not get shocked with the water temp. the objective is to keep the body cools down. let the water to self-adsorb into the body.

2. bath - if your kiddos's temp is too high (above 39.5degC / 103degF), straight bring them to the toilet and bath them bottom up as well. this is a better method to ensure the body gain more water. use the tab water, not hot water. i repeat... tab water~~ let the water to self-adsorb into the body.

3. monitor - make sure you have a reliable thermometer to get the best reading. those days i was using normal automatic thermo *ala...yg panjang tu n bile abis reading bunyik beep beep. got it?*. but for me i think that thermo cant provide fast reading *yela...mana larat nk tgu lama..tensi!*, we opt for ear thermo. you cant get this thermo at guardian or watson or even clinic! its fast, very very very fast

4. hydrate - if you feel to keep your kiddos hydrated, pat pat water on their body and let the water to self-adsorb into the body. continue doing it until you feels that its enuff

5. coverage - if you are doing the above at night, make sure that u dont wet their chest & head (minimal at face only). this is to avoid ur kiddos get flu, cough or pneumonia.

6. sleep - dont ever use blanket to cover you kiddos and dont put long sleeve & socks. we want to let go the heat, not keep them with the kiddos

thats about it peeps~~ keep your kiddos healthy :)

the LORD of tooth

siannnnnnnn qist~~~~ its been 3days already and her high fever is still up & down. last friday morning i woke-up in shock when her temperature shown 38.7C. masyaAllah....!! straight away sponging the whole body, continue taking her temp *thanx ku for buying the ear thermo!* , continue again with hydrating the body. berat hati nk g keje..... the whole friday her temp is still high... . her temp later at night ok and by sat morning became normal. lega~~~  but biasalah it continue with flue & cough. all of a sudden early this morning she shown high temp again!! eehhh.....??? im confuse now... rupenye her molar tooth is coming out~~ awww..... pity her.... no wonder she's been less interest in food, porridge, milk. she took mainly plain water &  biscuit. alhamdulillah minum jugey susu when her temp goes down yesterday... a pediatrician says

"teething can cause diarrhea and a mild diaper rash because your child's excessive saliva ends up in his gut and loosens his stools. Inflammation in the gums, he thinks, may cause a low fever (under 101degF = 38.3degC)" *babycenter.com*

however, a child development experts say

"teething cannot cause fever, diarrhea, vomiting, or loss of appetite and that these are signs of illness that should be checked out........... probably due to an infection unrelated to teething, but that the stress associated with teething could make your child more vulnerable to infection right before a new tooth appears." *babycenter.com*

haaa...now i understand why she behaved that way... ok enuff on the fact. what i need for her today.... her rubber teething ring and biscuit to ease her soreness. i am wondering where is her

tooth fairy...!!

oooooo...woooowwwww!!!

toddler porridge v1

as usual, one of my weekend day will be slot for cooking qist's porridge. those days when she was 6 mths, i woke up everyday @ 4.30am to cook fresh for that day. yup, n that includes weekday as well. sbb tu kekadang jadi zombie! docs said to maintain the freshness & hygiene. i folo jela.... after she reach around 11 mths, when my work was busy at its peak, i reduced to cook the porridge to once every 2 days. ni kire rajin tahap dewa juge ni. after she reach 1 year 3-4 mths gitu, then i started to prepare for 1-week supply *saya mintak maaf ye doc!*

TODDLER PORRIDGE v1

Ingredient

1/4 Chicken (bhgn isi)
3-4 ketul tulang daging (yg ada isi skit2)
3 small cup rice
1 carrot
1/2 red capsicum
1 small potato
1/2 knorr ayam (no added msg)

Method

- boil water and put in tulang & chicken. leave it to become stock around 1hr
- take-out tulang & chicken. pour in rice. let it cook slowly another 45 mins
- grate carrot, capsicum, potato. set aside
- grate/blend chicken. not too hancur
- once rice has nearly become porridge, pour in grated/blended chicken.

- add in knorr ayam
- let it cook slowly
- separate half of the porridge into another pot
- put in carrot on one pot, and capsicum+potato into another pot
- tutup api & wait for it to cool down
- put 4 senduk chicken porridge into each tupperware
done!

well...sounds lama kan kan? 2 hours in total. tp actually takde dok ngadap je. can do other things at the same time. cook for dinner, eat dinner, tgk tv etc. owh.. why capsicum ya? tak pedas ke? at first i was bit terkejut when my fren told me she do use capsicum for her son's porridge. actually capsicum tak pedas pon! when u nak masak, buang the biji2 & the center white area tu. its actually taste quite sweet. if you feel 2 hrs is too long, ill share next week on my fish porridge pulak.stay tune~

HAPPY PORRIDGE-ING
